Do I Really Care What They Think?

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

If you are going to create something original and present it to the world, you had better ask yourself this question. Do you care what people think?... Probably... So if they don’t like what you’ve made, how are you going to take it? Are you going to take it personally? Are you so connected to your art that it’s “Who you are”? Are you going to take their criticism as a personal attack on you? If so, maybe your art should just be for you, your family and your friends. It will probably be more rewarding and a lot less painful.
However, if like a proud parent you want to release your creation out into the world and accept that it has to make its own way, thick skin is probably best.
I am starting to get reviews back from newspapers, magazines and music websites, and I just have to say up front, they have been very positive. I am really grateful that these intelligent people have taken the time to totally pick this thing apart and proud that it is standing up to their assault. Like this one for instance, from a site that has probably never reviewed a christian artist before:
Under The Gun Review
Here is what you have to remember, and what it all boils down to. The decision you have to make is: Do you believe in yourself and in your art? Do you believe that other people will appreciate and enjoy your art? Do you absolutely need to find out?
Then you have no choice but to release it to the world and be prepared for what you are going to hear. But know this: some people will love it, and some will hate it, and it’s not for you to please everybody. Just try your best to connect with the ones that dig it, and keep them around you to encourage you to continue to create. Because that is what it is all about. Get back out there and create art. http://underthegunreview.net/?tag=chris-janeshapeimage_2_link_0
